Altruistic Joe is a veteran-owned smallbusiness with two defined goals:

1.

Provide our customers the very best coffee available in the world, roasted fresh before it ships, sold at a competitive price.

2.

Maximize the positive global impact of each order by donating 20% of all net proceeds to a group of highly rated charities, addressing a diverse set of needs.

Each of our selected charitable organizations has earned a 4-star rating on CharityNavigator.org, with an overall score over 90%, as well as a 100% score for "Accountability & Transparency." We continually evaluate the charities we are donating to against other worthwhile options in our effort to maximize our impact per dollar donated.

The charitable organizations we support provide significant relief to the following causes:

  • Global Health & Human Services
  • Military Veteran & Family Services
  • Animal Welfare
  • Environmental Conservation

The Jenks Family: Libby, Jamie, Scout, and Patrick

Libby & Jamie Jenks own Altruistic Joe Coffee, and for them, this endeavor blends a passion for a great product with superior service to customers with shared values. These two Illinois natives met in Chicago in 2000, the year after Jamie graduated from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business with a degree in Entrepreneurship. They quickly began a relationship forged from the work ethic and commitment to service born from the intense Chicago restaurant and bar industry. They married in 2001, and soon after, Jamie embarked on a significant professional detour into the United States Coast Guard.

After their first two Coast Guard duty stations (San Francisco Bay area & the Bayou of SE Louisiana), Jamie pursued his pilot wings at Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Florida.  Upon Graduation in 2006, Jamie was assigned to Clearwater, Florida to fly the MH-60 Jayhawk, the USCG's primary aircraft for long-range Search & Rescue. The couple added to their family in 2007 with their son, Patrick, and in 2011 with their daughter, Scout. The family moved to Sitka, Alaska in 2010, and as natural entrepreneurs with an eye for the community, Jamie & Libby opened "The Bayview Pub" in Sitka with the help of Jamie’s brothers, Jeff & Dave.

They owned and operated The Pub from 2011-2015, establishing it as a staple location for locals and tourists alike, before selling it to pursue other ventures. After another flying assignment out of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Jamie attended the U.S. Army's Command & Staff School, moving the family to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 2018, which ultimately landed them back in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2019 for Jamie's final assignment in the Coast Guard.

As the Jenks' Family's 20+ years of service with the USCG was coming to a conclusion, the question of their next chapter began. After a career dedicated to the slogan “so others may live”, they felt the need to serve others in come capacity in the next chapter, which is how they landed on the idea for Altruistic Joe Coffee. Like many other veteran-owned small businesses, Altruistic Joe commits a significant portion of its profits to charity. Jamie & Libby are both honored & excited to pursue their deep love for great coffee in a capacity that serves independent farmers, an independent roaster, their loyal customers, and ultimately, a group of truly special charitable organizations. Thank you for visiting Altruistic Joe. We appreciate your support!
